Bridgetown Initiative
The Bridgetown Initiative is a set of proposals for reforming international development and climate finance, launched in 2022 by Mia Mottley, the prime minister of Barbados. It calls for emergency liquidity for vulnerable countries, clauses suspending debt payments after disasters, more lending by multilateral banks and new funding for climate resilience. Several of its ideas were taken up at international meetings such as the 2023 Paris summit on a new global financing pact.
