Bridgetown
Bridgetown is the capital and main port of Barbados, on Carlisle Bay on the island's south-west coast. Founded by English settlers in 1628, it became a centre of the Atlantic sugar and slave trade and the seat of British governors in the eastern Caribbean. Its historic centre and garrison were made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
