Saint Vincent (island)
Saint Vincent is a volcanic island of the Windward Islands in the Caribbean. It long remained in the hands of the Kalinago and the Garifuna, people of mixed African and Kalinago descent, who resisted European settlement. Britain gained it in 1763, deported most Garifuna after the war of 1795–1797, and it is now part of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
