Cape Verdean Creole
Cape Verdean Creole, known as Kriolu, is a Portuguese-based creole language spoken in Cape Verde and by its emigrant communities. It arose from contact between Portuguese settlers and enslaved West Africans on the islands from the late 15th century, making it one of the oldest living creoles. It is the everyday language of almost all Cape Verdeans and the language of music such as morna.
