Cape Verde

Cape Verde is an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of West Africa, uninhabited until Portuguese settlement in the fifteenth century. It became an important base for Atlantic shipping and the slave trade. The islands remained a colony of the Portuguese Empire until independence in 1975.
