Charter of Carnaro

1920 · 20th century

The Charter of Carnaro was the constitution of the Italian Regency of Carnaro, proclaimed by Gabriele D'Annunzio in Fiume in September 1920 and drafted largely by the syndicalist Alceste De Ambris. It organised citizens into ten corporations, guaranteed broad civil rights including equality of the sexes, and declared music a fundamental institution of the state. Its corporatism influenced Fascism.
