Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference

1949 · 20th century · Also known as CPPCC

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference is a political advisory body of the People's Republic of China, bringing together the Communist Party, the minor parties and other groups under the party's leadership. Its first session in September 1949 acted as a constituent assembly, adopting the Common Program and electing Mao Zedong as chairman of the new government, and it still meets each year alongside the National People's Congress.
