Chronicle of Albelda

c. 881–883 · 9th century · Also known as Albeldensian Chronicle

The Chronicle of Albelda is a Latin chronicle compiled at the court of Alfonso III of Asturias around 881–883, named after the monastery of Albelda in La Rioja, where a copy was made. It combines a description of Spain with lists of Roman, Visigothic and Asturian kings and a short history of Asturias. With the Chronicle of Alfonso III it presents the Asturian kings as heirs of the Visigoths destined to restore Christian rule over Spain.
