Concepción, Chile

Concepción is a city in south-central Chile near the mouth of the Biobío river, founded by Pedro de Valdivia in 1550. As the main Spanish base on the frontier of the Arauco War it housed the colony's army. After an earthquake and tsunami destroyed it in 1751, it was rebuilt at its present site; it is now one of Chile's largest cities.
