Bourbon Reforms
The Bourbon Reforms were a programme of administrative, fiscal and military changes introduced in Spain and its American colonies by the Bourbon kings in the eighteenth century. They sought to rationalise colonial government, tighten royal control and increase revenue. Colonial revenues rose substantially, but the reforms also generated creole resentment that fed the independence movements which ended the Spanish Empire in the Americas.
