Spanish Empire
The Spanish Empire was one of the largest empires in history, built from the late fifteenth century with the conquest of much of the Americas, the Philippines and possessions in Europe and Africa. American silver financed its wars in Europe. It declined from the seventeenth century, losing most of its American colonies in the early nineteenth century and its last major overseas territories in 1898.
