Mexico

Mexico is a country in North America whose central valley was the heartland of the Aztec Empire. After the Spanish conquest of 1519 to 1521, it became the core of the viceroyalty of New Spain, one of the richest parts of the Spanish Empire thanks to its silver mines. Mexico gained independence in 1821.
