Aztec Empire
The Aztec Empire was the Triple Alliance of Tenochtitlan, Texcoco and Tlacopan, formed in 1428 in the Valley of Mexico and dominated by the Mexica of Tenochtitlan. It collected tribute from a large number of subject city-states across central Mexico. It was conquered by Spanish forces led by Hernán Cortés with indigenous allies in 1519–1521, a foundational event of the Spanish Empire in the Americas.
