Cumberland

Cumberland is a historic county in north-west England, between the Solway Firth and the Lake District, with Carlisle as its chief town. Once part of the British kingdom of Strathclyde, it was disputed between Scottish and English kings: David I of Scotland held it during the English civil war of Stephen and Matilda, until Henry II recovered it in 1157.
