Daric
The daric was a gold coin of the Achaemenid Empire, introduced under Darius I. Of consistently high purity, it served as a prestigious medium of exchange and a tool of royal policy, used to pay troops and to subsidise allies and clients, including Greek states. Its standardised issue reflected the fiscal organisation of the Persian state.
