Darial Pass
The Darial Pass is a gorge of the Terek River through the central Greater Caucasus, on the border between Georgia and Russia. Since antiquity it has been the main route across the mountains, guarded by fortifications known to classical writers as the Caspian or Alan Gates. The Georgian Military Road, built by Russia in the 19th century, runs through it.
