Datu Uto
Datu Uto was the ruler of Buayan on the upper Pulangi River in Mindanao and the most powerful Maguindanao leader of the later 19th century. Exchanging captives and forest goods for firearms, he dominated the Cotabato valley as the Maguindanao sultanate weakened under Spanish pressure. Spanish expeditions forced him to submit in 1887, but he kept much of his authority.
