Denpasar
Denpasar is the capital of the Indonesian province of Bali, in the south of the island. It grew around a palace built by the rulers of the Kingdom of Badung in the late 18th century, which became their leading court. In September 1906 the raja and his court marched into Dutch gunfire there in a ritual puputan rather than surrender. It became the capital of Bali in 1958 and is now its largest city.
