Donal MacCarthy Mór, 1st Earl of Clancare
Donal MacCarthy Mór was the last MacCarthy Mór, head of the MacCarthy dynasty of Desmond in south-west Ireland. Under the Tudor policy of surrender and regrant he was created Earl of Clancare in 1565, but he twice rebelled against the Crown. He died without a legitimate male heir, and the earldom became extinct.
