Ealdred of Bamburgh
Ealdred was the ruler of Bamburgh and the northern part of the former Northumbrian kingdom in the early tenth century, son of Eadwulf. Driven out for a time by the Norse king Ragnall, he submitted to Edward the Elder in 920 and to Æthelstan at Eamont in 927, when the northern rulers acknowledged English overlordship. His family, the house of Bamburgh, continued to govern the north as earls.
