Edo Bay

Edo Bay, now Tokyo Bay, is the bay on which Edo stands. In 1853 Commodore Matthew Perry's 'Black Ships' entered it and demanded that Japan open to American trade, exposing the military weakness of the Tokugawa Shogunate and setting in motion the events that led to its fall.
