El Castillo de Huarmey

El Castillo de Huarmey is an archaeological site on the north coast of Peru, in the Áncash region, belonging to the Wari Empire. In 2012 archaeologists found an unlooted royal tomb there holding the remains of 58 elite women, some regarded as queens, buried with gold and silver jewellery, weaving tools and fine ceramics. The find showed the reach and wealth of Wari on the Pacific coast.
