Elamite conquest of Babylon (c. 1158 BCE)

c. 1158 BCE · 12th century BCE · Also known as defeat of the Kassite dynasty

The Elamite conquest of Babylon around 1158 BCE was a campaign by Elamite kings, notably Shutruk-Nahhunte and his successors, which brought an end to the Kassite dynasty. The Elamites carried off monuments to Susa, including the Code of Hammurabi stele, and the episode marked a high point of the Elamite Confederation's power.
