Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front

1988–2019 · 20th century · Also known as EPRDF

The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) was a coalition of ethnic-based parties led by the Tigray People's Liberation Front under Meles Zenawi. Its forces overthrew the Derg regime in May 1991, and it then governed Ethiopia under the ethnic federal constitution of 1994, presiding over rapid state-led growth while restricting opposition and the press. In 2019 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed merged most of it into the new Prosperity Party.
