Eugeniusz Okoń

1881–1949 · 20th century

Eugeniusz Okoń was a radical Polish Catholic priest who, with the peasant activist Tomasz Dąbal, led the short-lived Republic of Tarnobrzeg in November 1918. As Austrian rule in Galicia collapsed, he called on peasants and returning soldiers to seize power and demanded land reform. After the movement was suppressed he was elected to the Sejm of the Second Polish Republic.
