Event
Farhud
The Farhud was a violent pogrom against the Jews of Baghdad on 1–2 June 1941, in the power vacuum after the fall of Rashid Ali's pro-Axis government and before British troops entered the city. At least 180 Jews were killed, many more were injured and their property was looted. It marked a turning point for Iraq's ancient Jewish community, most of whom left for Israel in 1950–1951.
