First Anglo-Mysore War
The First Anglo-Mysore War (1767–1769) was fought between Hyder Ali's Mysore and the British East India Company, with the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marathas drawn in at different stages. After Hyder's cavalry raided close to Madras, the Company accepted the Treaty of Madras of 1769, which restored conquests on both sides and promised mutual aid. The war established Mysore as the leading rival to British power in southern India.
