First Anglo-Sikh War
The First Anglo-Sikh War was fought in 1845–1846 between the Sikh Empire and the British East India Company. The Khalsa army fought hard but was defeated, partly owing to the manoeuvres of its own leaders. The peace treaty ceded territory, including Kashmir, and placed the Sikh state under British influence.
