Khalsa
The Khalsa is the collective body of initiated Sikhs, established by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 as a community bound by shared discipline, identity and readiness to defend the faith. It provided the ideological and military core from which the Sikh Empire emerged under Ranjit Singh. Khalsa identity shaped the empire's army, its claims to legitimacy and, after Ranjit Singh's death, the factional politics of its decline.
