1846 · 19th century · Also known as Battle of Buddowal · Part of the First Anglo-Sikh War

The Battle of Baddowal was an engagement on 21 January 1846 near Ludhiana in Punjab during the First Anglo-Sikh War. Sikh forces under Ranjodh Singh Majithia attacked a British column under Sir Harry Smith marching to relieve Ludhiana and captured much of its baggage. Smith nevertheless reached Ludhiana, and a week later he defeated the Sikhs at Aliwal.
