Fort Canning Hill
Fort Canning Hill is a hill in central Singapore overlooking the Singapore River. Malay tradition remembers it as Bukit Larangan, the Forbidden Hill of the kings of Singapura, and excavations there have found 14th-century Chinese ceramics, gold ornaments and workshop remains. The British built Government House on it after 1819 and later Fort Canning, from which it takes its name.
