Gaius Hostilius Mancinus

2nd century BCE · 2nd century BCE

Gaius Hostilius Mancinus was a Roman consul of 137 BCE who commanded against Numantia in the Numantine War. Trapped by the Numantines, he surrendered with about 20,000 men and accepted a treaty negotiated by his quaestor Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus. The Senate repudiated the treaty and handed Mancinus over, bound, to the Numantines, who refused to accept him.
