Galeazzo Ciano

1903–1944 · 20th century

Galeazzo Ciano was an Italian Fascist politician, Benito Mussolini's son-in-law and foreign minister from 1936 to 1943. His diaries are a major source for Fascist foreign policy. In July 1943 he voted in the Grand Council against Mussolini, who was then deposed; he was later tried by the Italian Social Republic at Verona and shot in January 1944.
