Gallic Wars

58–50 BCE · 1st century BCE

The Gallic Wars were the campaigns of Julius Caesar in Gaul from 58 to 50 BCE, which brought the whole of Gaul west of the Rhine under Roman rule. They included expeditions across the Rhine and to Britain and the defeat of the great revolt under Vercingetorix at Alesia in 52 BCE. Caesar's own account, the Commentaries on the Gallic War, is the main source.
