Gangwon Province

Gangwon is a region on the east coast of the Korean Peninsula, crossed by the Taebaek Mountains. One of the eight provinces of Joseon, it was divided in 1945 between the South Korean province, centred on Chuncheon, and North Korea's Kangwon Province. In ancient times its coast was home to the Dongye people, and the southern part hosted the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang.
