Hamgyong Province
Hamgyong was one of the eight provinces of Joseon Korea, on the north-east coast of the peninsula bordering Manchuria. Mountainous and long a frontier against the Jurchen, it was split in 1896 into North and South Hamgyong, which are now provinces of North Korea. In ancient times its coast was home to the Okjeo and Dongye peoples.
