Gaston Flosse

b. 1931 · 20th century

Gaston Flosse is a French Polynesian politician who led the territory's government for much of the period from the 1980s to 2014. As head of the pro-French Tahoeraa Huiraatira party he dominated local politics in rivalry with the pro-independence leader Oscar Temaru, and secured wider autonomy statutes from Paris. Convictions for corruption ended his career.
