Genesee River
The Genesee River rises in northern Pennsylvania and flows north through western New York to Lake Ontario at Rochester. Its valley was the heartland of the Seneca, westernmost nation of the Iroquois Confederacy, whose towns there were burned by the Sullivan Expedition in 1779. After the Revolution the fertile valley was sold to settlers, and the river's falls powered the mills of Rochester.
