Kinzua Dam

1965 · 20th century

The Kinzua Dam is a flood-control dam on the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania, completed in 1965. Its reservoir flooded about 10,000 acres of the Seneca Nation's Allegany land and the Cornplanter Grant, forcing some 600 Seneca to leave their homes. The project broke the Treaty of Canandaigua of 1794 and remains a bitter memory for the Seneca.
