Gian Gastone de' Medici
Gian Gastone de' Medici was the last Medici Grand Duke of Tuscany, reigning from 1723 to 1737. Withdrawn and often bedridden, he nonetheless relaxed his father Cosimo III's religious restrictions, reduced taxes and repealed anti-Jewish laws. He died childless after the great powers had already assigned his succession to Francis Stephen of Lorraine, and his sister Anna Maria Luisa bequeathed the family's art collections to Florence.
