Gisors

Gisors is a town on the Epte in the Eure department of Normandy, in the Vexin. Its castle, begun under William Rufus at the end of the eleventh century, was a key fortress on the frontier between Normandy and the French kingdom and was often fought over. Philip II of France gained it in 1193 while Richard the Lionheart was in captivity, and Richard defeated the French nearby in 1198.
