Grand Trunk Railway
The Grand Trunk Railway was a railway company incorporated in the Province of Canada in 1852 to link Montreal, Toronto and an ice-free Atlantic port. By 1860 its line ran from Sarnia through Montreal to Portland, Maine, crossing the St Lawrence on the Victoria Bridge. Burdened by debt, it was taken over by the Canadian government after the First World War and merged into Canadian National Railways in 1923.
