Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada, at the eastern end of Lake Ontario where it flows into the St. Lawrence River. It grew from the French post of Fort Frontenac, founded in 1673, and was resettled by Loyalists after 1783 as a naval base. From 1841 to 1844 it was the first capital of the Province of Canada, and it lies at the southern end of the Rideau Canal.
