St. Lawrence River
The St. Lawrence River flows from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic in eastern Canada. French explorers used it as a gateway to the interior, and Quebec was founded on its banks. Accounts of the French Empire treat it as the axis of New France and the fur trade.
