Acadia
Acadia was a French colony in north-eastern North America, covering parts of present-day Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and neighbouring areas. Founded in the early seventeenth century, it was one of the first French settlements in the Americas and part of the foundation of the French colonial empire. It was repeatedly contested with Britain, which gained it in the eighteenth century and later expelled many Acadians.
