Brunswick

Also known as Braunschweig

Brunswick, in German Braunschweig, is a city in Lower Saxony, Germany, on the Oker river. Henry the Lion made it his residence in the 12th century, building Dankwarderode Castle and setting up the bronze lion. It became a leading Hanseatic town, then capital of the Duchy and Free State of Brunswick until 1946. Its technical university, founded in 1745, is among the oldest in Germany.
