St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador
St. John's is a port city on the east coast of Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula, one of the oldest English settlements in North America and a base of the English cod fishery. It was repeatedly attacked in the Anglo-French wars; in the winter of 1696–1697 Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville marched from French Plaisance and destroyed it. It is now the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador.
