Louisbourg
Louisbourg was a fortified French town on Cape Breton Island, then Île Royale, in what is now Nova Scotia, Canada, built from 1713 to guard the Gulf of St Lawrence and the cod fishery. New England forces captured it in 1745, but it was returned to France in 1748; the British took it again in 1758 and demolished its walls. Part of the fortress has been reconstructed as a national historic site.
