Grand Village of the Natchez
The Grand Village of the Natchez is an archaeological site on St Catherine Creek in Natchez, Mississippi, the main ceremonial centre of the Natchez people in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It holds platform mounds on which stood the house of the Great Sun, the sacred ruler, and a temple with a perpetual fire. French writers described it before the Natchez were destroyed by France in 1729–1731.
