Great Satraps' Revolt

c. 372–362 BCE · 4th century BCE · Also known as Satraps' Revolt

The Great Satraps' Revolt was a series of uprisings by provincial governors in the western parts of the Achaemenid Empire in c. 372–362 BCE, under Artaxerxes II. It ultimately failed, largely through betrayals among the rebels, but it exposed the tensions between the king and his powerful satraps.
